Romney's father, George, served as Governor of Michigan and a member of Richard Nixon's presidential cabinet. Before running for elected office, Romney founded investment firm Bain Capital. He was also President of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee from 1999-2002.

Romney was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 12, 1947. His father, George Romney, was the 43rd Governor of Michigan from 1963 to 1969 and US Secretary of Housing and Urban Development from 1969 to 1973. He ran for the Republican nomination for president in 1968.

Mitt Romney began his career working for management consulting firm Bain & Company, going on to found investment firm Bain Capital in 1984. In 1999 he served as President of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee, overseeing the 2002 Winter Olympics.
