Glenn Ivey earned a B.A. in politics from Princeton University in 1983 and a J.D. from Harvard University in 1986. Ivey's career experience includes founding Ivey & Levetown and working as the state's attorney for Prince George's County and a partner with the law firm of Preston, Gates, Ellis. He served as the chairman of the Maryland Public Service Commission.
