Mike Levin was born in Inglewood, California. He earned a bachelor's degree from Stanford University in 2001 and a J.D. from the Duke University School of Law in 2005. His career experience includes working as an attorney specializing in environmental and energy regulatory compliance and governmental affairs. Levin previously served as the executive director of the Democratic Party of Orange County and as a board member for the Center for Sustainable Energy.
