Gary Palmer (Republican Party) is a member of the U.S. House, representing Alabama's 6th Congressional District. He assumed office on January 3, 2015. His current term ends on January 3, 2025.
Palmer (Republican Party) is running for re-election to the U.S. House to represent Alabama's 6th Congressional District. He declared candidacy for the Republican primary scheduled on March 5, 2024.
Palmer was the chairman of the Republican Policy Committee in the 116th Congress.
Palmer was first elected to the U.S. House in 2014, winning by a margin of more than 50 percentage points. He has served on the Committees on Budget, Oversight and Government Reform, and Science, Space, and Technology. Palmer is also a member of the House Freedom Caucus.
Prior to serving in public office, Palmer was the president of the conservative think tank Alabama Policy Institute for 24 years.
Palmer earned a B.S. in operations management from the University of Alabama. He also received an honorary doctorate from the University of Mobile. Palmer spent 24 years as the leader of the Alabama Policy Institute (API), a research organization whose purpose is "to identify, develop and promote sound public policies that emphasize a limited government, free markets, the rule of law and strong families." Palmer also served on Governor Robert Bentley's Alabama Commission on Improving State Government.
